it has snowed every day for over a week now. i can count the number of times that i've seen the sun since december 1st on one hand. so i am dreaming of spring. i am holding out faith that spring will eventually come and bring easter with it. and so.......
i sorted through my mom's pattern collection. my mom sewed for us. she is thrifty, not out of necessity, because my dad was a doctor, but because she like to be thrifty, and she also enjoys doing....doing most anything as long as it is something. sewing included. i am grateful for her legacy, although there were times i didn't feel that way, like when i was in 6th grade and had never owned a store-bought pair of pants or a dress. but mostly, i have been grateful. she taught me to sew, and taught me anything i wanted to learn, because she could. she is capable and willing. she is like that. as i touched each pattern, i re-lived each of my easters, my 4th of july's, my pioneer days, and many other occasions. all my favorite outfits were there, on the pattern covers. i also found patterns that i used when i started making my own clothes around 9 or 10 years old, and baby patterns for outfits i made for my baby sister when i was 13. i loved to sew for her. i decided to use some of these patterns that my easter dresses were made from to make mia & gracie's easter dresses this year. so fun that everything vintage is new again. thank you mom! (i only wish it was still thrifty to sew, now it's more expensive than store-bought, but so much more fun!).
here is the fabric we found with my friend sarah on another sunny trip to st. george. lexi and tashi chose the paisleys to make their own dresses. so i changed my mind about the darling pink polka dots that i had chosen for mia & grace, and chose these green and blue pastels to coordinate. the plaid will be
shorts for noah.
I think now is the perfect time for getting ready for spring (sewing easter dresses) anything that will make the cold go by faster and make you feel good. Have fun.
